Same thing happened to me at the hosptial last summer 2007 from the auto accident.

I was not aware that the patient had to speak to the hosptial room intercom for nurse to come down or assisted me. I had to yell for the nurse's help which I was totally immobilized with my both legs for nearly a month.

The poor accessibility means within the hosptial room intercom desginated for hearing people, not all the kind of patients, etc. This kind of situation created the frictions in inter-relationships between me and nurses cuz of the audistic design.

Nurses often told me not to yell because of other hosptial patients. I replied 'What about my own needs for assistance or emergency responses from nurses.

One of the ASL terp happened to nap on the empty hosptial bed. He said that there was a voice - "May I help you?", then no so-called responses from me. The nurses simply shut down my hosptial room intercom.

The hosptial adminstrators were aware of this questionable accessibility issue, but not did not take any action to resolve the whole matter.

RLM,

You ought to have reported to
the NAD and Equal Rights Center
about this matter. Actually,
you could file a lawsuit and,
guess what, you could win!

I think they need to be educated about the process/interpreter/serving Deaf. Maybe they can have some kind of meeting or workshop about this issue every six months to keep up with that. What do you think?
